Artist's Statement
During the last 15 years my research has led me from stories of the
Black Madonna, a counter-orthodox Christian symbol, to myths and
legends surrounding familiar figures from the bible and history.
This body of work is a narrative that explores social legends such as
those of guilt and retribution. These legends could be used to
control and maintain the order of things. Stepping out of bounds,
especially for women, was dealt with severely.
In the painting "Guilt Trip" I imagine a moral story that goes on
endlessly, providing no ultimate closure.
More recently, I have been exploring Celtic myths such as those of
harpies, sirens and the Korrighan; stories which, according to Joseph
Campbell are told to explain the inexplicable.
